Comprehensive Health Screening for Winnipeg Firefighters

Your health is your most important equipment.

As a firefighter, you face occupational hazards that put you at significantly higher risk for certain cancers, heart disease, and other serious health conditions. Early detection saves lives. This comprehensive screening program is designed specifically for the unique health risks you face on the job.

Why firefighters need specialized screening

Firefighters are exposed to:

  • Concentrated carcinogens that penetrate even the most modern PPE
  • Extreme physical and cardiovascular stress during emergency responses
  • Toxic chemicals, dense smoke, and heat on a regular basis
  • Chronic sleep deprivation and extended on-call shifts

In 2022, the International Agency for Research on Cancer officially designated firefighting as a Group 1 carcinogen – carcinogenic to humans.
